Charter schools in DC are authorized by the DC Public Charter School Board the only truly independent charter school authorizer in the country. Additionally, DC has some of the strongest funding in the country for charter schools which has only further strengthened the charter sector in the nation’s capital.

Blended learning, which is a combination of online and face-to-face instruction, is becoming a popular option provided by charter schools.
Teacher Quality Score: 0%
Student performance is the preponderant element DC’s annual teacher evaluations. However, evidence of effectiveness is not considered when granting/denying tenure. DC grants its teachers performance pay and allows teachers to be fired for ineffectiveness.
